EqualSplit ("we", "our", "the app") is an expense-splitting application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

• Phone Number - collected during registration, used to create and identify your account.
• Email Address - collected during registration, used to create and identify your account.
• Contacts - with your permission, we access your device contacts (names and phone numbers) to check which of your contacts are already using the app, so you can add them to expense groups. If a contact is not on the app, we allow you to send them an invite link.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your account
• To match your contacts against our registered users, so you can add friends to shared expenses
• To send app-invite links to contacts who are not yet registered
• To provide core app functionality (creating groups, splitting expenses, tracking balances)

3. Contacts Data - How It Is Handled

When you grant contacts permission, your contact list (names and phone numbers) is sent securely to our servers to check which numbers already have an account. We do not use your contacts for any purpose other than this matching and invite feature. We do not sell or share your contacts with advertisers or unrelated third parties.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited data with service providers who help us run the app (for example, cloud hosting or database providers), solely to operate the service. These providers are bound to handle data securely and only for the purposes we specify.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is transmitted over secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS). We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and contacts data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data as described in our Account Deletion Policy.

7. Your Choices and Rights

• You can revoke contacts permission at any time from your device settings; this will disable the "find friends" feature but not affect other app functionality.
• You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time — see our Account Deletion page.
• You can contact us at any time with questions about your data (see Contact section below).

8. Children's Privacy

This app is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
